Founded in 1902 in Alexander City, Alabama, by Benjamin Russell.
In the early 1920s, it created the prototype of the sweatshirt, becoming the first in the world, and in 1938 developed the world's first printed sweatshirt.
Subsequently, using that technology, it popularized sweatshirts with school names and logos in bookstores across the United States for schools and colleges.
In the 1980s and 90s, it entered into supplier contracts with American professional sports (NFL, MLB) and established the Russell "R" mark (Eagle R) nationwide.
It is said that "Russell wear is found in the closets of American homes, often without them even realizing it."
