<RUSSELL ATHLETIC>
Founded in 1902 by Benjamin Russell in Alexander City, Alabama, Russell was the first to create the prototype sweatshirt in the early 1920s, and developed the world's first rubber print in 1938 (the prototype of today's American rubber print). Later, using this technology, Russell popularized sweatshirts featuring school names and logos in bookstores across the United States, including uniforms for schools and colleges. In the 1980s and 1990s, Russell signed supplier contracts with American professional sports teams (NFL and MLB), and the Russell "R" mark (Eagle R) is now a well-established brand recognized nationwide.
